Inventive minds and data benders, we are thrilled to announce that SUPSI’s summer camp is back for round #2! Machine Learning for Creatives is a 4-day workshop on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and its relative creative applications. Participants will learn how to include AI in their projects, and experiment with some simple tools created for artists and designers.

The initial part covers a high-level definition of what is artificial intelligence in general, and machine learning in particular. Then we will look at existing projects that use this technology in the fields of art, science, design, and creativity in general.
In the second part of the workshop, participants will venture into using machine learning as a tool. We will look at some existing web-based libraries, and many examples will be provided. Some introductory programming tools will be used to start experimenting with machine learning, in particular, ML5.js and Wekinator.
Participants will also be involved in the creation of new projects, starting from the ones provided, effectively experimenting first-hand in tweaking the data and algorithms. Let yourself be inspired or warm yourself up by exploring the playful and imaginative prototypes the participants came up with last year!
For who?The workshop is open for everyone interested in (and curious to explore) AI in a creative practice. No previous experience in machine learning is required, but a bit of coding experience is appreciated, as most of the tools are code-based.
Matteo LoglioMatteo Loglio is a designer and artist, currently experimenting with the creative applications of artificial intelligence. Recently he designed a musical synthesizer for Google, he taught a river in London to write poetry and started the ed-tech company Cubetto: a wooden robot that is changing the lives of millions of children using it every day. Matteo talks about design and creativity in universities, museums and hackspaces around the world. Sometimes you can find his work exhibited in places like MoMA NY, V&A London, or Triennale Milan.matlo.me
Danilo Di CuiaDanilo Di Cuia is a UX engineer with a focus on data visualisation. His work ranges from interactive installations to authoring tools for clients such as Google, Intel and the BBC. Passionate about creating accessible computational systems, he is currently working on a new programming language for embedded devices at Arduino. He also organises events and workshops for the Processing Foundation and La Scuola Open Source.linkedin.com/in/danilodicuia
AboutCoordinated by Serena Cangiano, this workshop series is a collaboration between MuDA and SUPSI (advanced master studies in interaction design in Lugano). It is supported by Hasler Stiftung and Swiss Design Network.
