This cosy sweatshirt is made by an algorithm. MuDA worked together with one of Switzerland's last industrial knitting mill to produce it.

The sweatshirt algorithm, written in Processing, receives a tiny data package defined by a hand-full of zeros (black) and ones (white). It then starts to repeat this input over and over in order to generate a pattern.
Unfortunately, every now and then, it does not clone the data correctly. As it carries out the new cycle it matches the output with the previous cycle and realises the mistake and tries to correct it on the next cycle, not always successfully, also because by then the previous (incorrect) cycle has become the new reference. A mutation creating a beautifully complex pattern as result.
