The exhibition's main installation consists of the reuse of one side of the original electromechanical timetable of Zurich's main train station. Part of commuters’ journeys since 1988, this icon of the image and sound of the station, an integral part of the city's identity, was replaced in October 2015 by a new and silent digital model.Die Hauptinstallation der Ausstellung besteht aus der Wiederverwendung einer Seite des originalen, alten elektromechanischen Generalanzeigers des Zürcher Hauptbahnhof. Seit 1988 ein Stück Pendlergeschichte, ist die Anzeige ein Symbol in Bild und Ton für die Identität der Stadt selbst. Im Oktober 2015 wurde sie durch ein neues und geräuschloses digitales Modell ersetzt.L’installation au coeur de cette exposition consiste en la réutilisation d'une des faces du tableau d’affichage électromécanique originel de la gare centrale de Zurich. BiographyBiografieBiographieBiografiaBoth born in 1975, Andreas Gysin and Sidi Vanetti’s friendship stems back to their first encounter at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Ticino where they teamed up for what would be the first in a long-lasting series of collaborations: a dissertation on visual communication and children’s narrative thinking.Die Freundschaft zwischen den Künstlern Andreas Gysin und Sidi Vanetti, beide im Jahre 1975 geboren, fand ihren Anfang, als sie sich an der Universität der Künste und Wissenschaften im Tessin trafen. Dort arbeiteten sie erstmals gemeinsam an einem Projekt: Einer Dissertation über visuelle Kommunikation und das erzählerische Denken von Kindern. Dieser ersten erfolgreichen Kollaboration sollten noch viele weitere gemeinsame Arbeiten folgen.La complicité qui lie Andreas Gysin et Sidi Vanetti, tous deux nés en 1975, remonte à leur rencontre à l’Université des Arts et des Sciences appliquées au Tessin, où ils collaborent sur le premier d’une longue série de projets: une dissertation sur la communication visuelle et la pensée narrative des enfants.Essendo nati insieme nel 1975, l’amicizia tra Andreas Gysin e Sidi Vanetti deriva da un incontro alla Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana in Ticino, dove hanno unito le forze per la prima di una lunga serie di collaborazioni: una tesi su comunicazione visuale e i pensieri narrativi dei bambini.

DigitsDigits is composed of 42 electromechanical elements called ‘7-segment display’ and usually employed to display numbers and a limited set of characters. They are used to post the price of fuel at gas stations or wherever a numerical display is needed. Digits besteht aus 42 sogenannten «7-Segment»- Anzeigen. Dots 2 + 3Two custom-built flip-dot displays based on a previous prototype coming from an old bus display which was reverse engineered and reprogrammed. A series of patterns built on the underlying grid of 112 × 14 dots are displayed in sequences with pauses of different lengths.Zwei eigens gebaute Flip-Dot-Anzeigen, welche von einem alten Bus stammen und neu programmiert wurden.
