As part of the Gramazio Kohler exhibition the two architects — Fabio Gramazio and Matthias Kohler — are giving a talk explaining the process behind their pioneering work of materializing the digital. Als Zugabe zu ihrer wunderbaren Gramazio Kohler-Ausstellung geben die zwei Architekten Fabio Gramazio und Matthias Kohler einen Einblick in den Prozess hinter ihrer Pionierarbeit.
Fabio Gramazio Fabio Gramazio was born in 1970 in Langenthal and surfaced to the public in 1994 as a co-founder of etoy, an art collective all about corporate identity, known for their use of the still early internet for artistic purposes. In parallel, he studied architecture in Zurich, where he received his degree in 1996. During the four years that followed, he was a scientific collaborator of professor Gerhard Schmitt at the ETH, then founded the office for architecture and urbanism Gramazio Kohler Architects together with Matthias Kohler.
Matthias Kohler Born in 1968 in Uster, programmed and designed computer games as teenager, completed his studies in architecture in 1996, at a time where computers weren’t creatively used in that field. The 1.92 metre tall man collaborated with professor Marc Angélil and later with professor Greg Lynn, before launching Gramazio Kohler Architects with, you guessed it, Fabio Gramazio. In 2005 they started Gramazio Kohler Research, located at ETH’s architecture department, and 2014 initiated the National Centre of Competence in Research in Digital Fabrication.
